Code of Conduct ~ School Rules

When enrolling at Gisborne Intermediate all students agree to:

  • Take pride in their appearance, their achievements and in the appearance of the school’s buildings and grounds.
  • Respect the rights of others at all times.

To ensure that each pupil is able to achieve the code they need to:

  • Wear the correct school uniform at all times. (The outer garment is worn as the longest un-tucked garment. Any garments under the approved uniform items must be plain white.)
  • The correct uniform is:
    • Shoes – completely black shoes which have black laces (with the correct socks) or black or brown sandals (worn correctly).
      Sports shoes may only be worn with tracksuit pants in Terms 2 and 3.
    • Blouse or Polo Shirt - white regulation blouse with the sleeve above elbow.
    • Shorts - Regulation navy shorts, above the knee and appropriately at the waist.
    • Track Pants - Regulation navy. Terms 2 and 3 only.
    • Scarf – Terms 2 & 3 and only Yellow or Blue. These may be worn outside but not inside where rooms are heated.
    • Sweat Shirt, Sleeveless Vest, School Jacket. All have logo and may be worn together.
    • PE Shirt - regulation shirt and Shorts - plain black shorts above the knee or black bike pants. (Always worn together). Sports shoes may be worn for sporting activities.
    • Swimming Shorts - Swimming shorts (not below the knee) only are to be worn in the pool.
      Boys – no boxer shorts in the pool.
      Girls - full togs (rash-vest and swimming shorts permitted as over-garments.)
    • Hats and Sunglasses - Students are strongly encouraged to wear a sun hat and sunglasses when outside. Beanies are not permitted in school and hats should be removed when indoors.
    • Jewellery - a watch, and only one plain stud or sleeper in each ear is permitted. (No nose, tongue, brow or bling studs.)
    • Hair - One natural hair colour throughout only. Multi-coloured hair styles are not to be seen at school.
    • Make-up - No Make-up or Nail polish.
    • Non-Uniform Items are not to be worn at school. These are removed upon entry to school, unless deemed necessary for health and safety reason at the discretion of the Principal.
  • Students always talk to adults and other students courteously. Always address adults using their name.
  • All classrooms other than the student’s own classroom are out of bounds.
  • The library is open for students some lunchtimes for those who are able to use this facility appropriately. (closed at Interval)
  • All students will be in their classrooms ready to start work when the 8.40am, 10.55am and the 1.25pm bells are rung.
  • Students may only leave the school between 8.40am and 3.00pm with written permission from home.
  • Lunch passes are issued by the Office when the student has written permission from home.
  • Climbing frames are the only things students climb. Students will keep out of trees and off the roof.
  • Computers will be used for eductional purposes only. Non-educational computer games and listening to music on the computer for recreational purposes is not permitted. (refer also to the Computer Use Agreement)
  • Balls are only kicked on the field. Rugby and soccer balls, in particular, should not be used anywhere other than on the field.
  • No spray deodorant or bosy sprays are permitted at school. (Roll-on deoderant is fine)
  • Areas that are out of bounds:
    • The front of the school, including BBQ area.
    • Bike Racks between 8.40am and 3.00pm.
    • All Car parks.
    • Fixed equipment when wet.
    • Columbine area.
    • Construction work areas.
  • Chewing gum and lollies will not be brought to school. Doing so will result in a visit to the "Thinking Room."
  • Cell phones and other electronic devices (e.g. ipods) are not permitted in school. (If cell phones are essential for after school use they must be handed in to the office before school immediately students are on the school grounds with a note from a parent and then collected at 3pm)
  • All litter is placed in bins. Only eat on the hard areas, no food on the fields but water is allowed.
  • Students will not be permitted in their classrooms at Interval or lunchtime without their teacher present. Before school students may be permitted in the classroom without the teacher present, but may not enter other’s rooms.
  • Swearing is prohibited at all times.
  • Bullying, including intimidation, fighting and ‘put downs’ are not tolerated.
  • Illegal substances will not be brought to school.
