General

We recognise that our students, on their way to becoming young adults, may experience enormous changes - physically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally - while in our care. The principal and deputies are available to all students and their parents, and specialist services are available to ensure guidance and support for your child's total well-being.

  • Social Worker - the school enjoys the services of a full time independently employed social worker

  • Health Nurse - visits the school when required

  • Tu Tangata programme provides additional adult support and mentoring

Pupil's Conduct and Behaviour Management

At Gisborne Intermediate we emphasize the positive and have developed a rewards system which acknowledges exemplary behaviour. Intervention strategies are used to ensure that the school remains a physically and emotionally safe place for all. We make good use of the cities resource teachers of learning and behaviour, two of whom are based at the school. We have excellent standards of behaviour at this school and intend to maintain these in the future. To enrol at Gisborne Intermediate is to accept our Code of Conduct.

Attendance

All pupils are expected to be at school by 8:35am ready to commence the school day at 8:40am. We monitor attendance closely.

Please call school office 8672246 if your child is going to be absent. This can be done the night before.

Homework

All pupils will be required to complete aspects of their class programme at home. Any work completed at home is directly linked to the classroom programme. Children are encouraged to read every night. 30 to 40 minutes per night is sufficient.
