The Award Designers

The Year Eight Award

A lot of people were chosen to design the awards; we all had fresh ideas, but the year 8 award must be the best of the best so it was a hard task. I thought about the goals of Year Eights and reaching for the stars. So I thought of a design that was reaching for the stars. A lot of people came up with lovely designs, but they all missed one thing from the educational point of view. Lots and lots of awards were being rejected, so I had to think of something amazing. The previous models had a weak base too, and if dropped would break. I finally created the final model after days of hard work. Then we painted its three-dimensional base and added finishing touches with some maori art.

It looks so cool; but best of all I created it.

The Year Seven Award

Lots of people were nominated to create new awards. Fortunately I was chosen to make the year 7 award; Mikaratu volunteered to help me. I thought and thought of all the goals of year Seven's, and finally came up with an inspiration. My first idea got rejected, so I had to think harder, and settled on the growth of year 7's to year 8's. So I thought I should represent the growth with the unfurling of the Koru. The big bright star represented the achievements they were striving for. The colour was pounamu - greenstone.

I felt so great to know that my award will be here years for to come, leaving behind my legacy for Gisborne Intermediate.
